| Users did not ask for a MS standard from an organisation that's been crippled and bought by MS, full of patent restrictions, and most of all, one that MS, as its creator, cannot and have publicly said will not support. It's very clearly obvious throughout the whole fiasco that MS has brought down ISO/IEC, won't be long now before they become irrelevant. |

| Thanks illbite101 You seem to be ignoring the many governments, regulators, organisations and end users who wanted these formats to be placed under independent standards body control. I do recognise that there is a small vocal group of people who apparently believe there should be only one, mandated file format that users should be obliged to use. But I think that respecting user opinion rather than dictating to users and taking away choice is a better way to go. Most open source advocates have long asked for the Office file formats to be placed in the independent domain and under independent maintenance and control. This has now happened. Ultimately it's users themselves who will decide what file formats they want to use for what purposes. That can only be a good thing. |
